  • Gills Draw 0-0 at Crewe But put in a great performance, which almost saw us win

Gillingham Vs Barnsley Home

The Gills were 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes. Simon Osborn scored his first goal for the club, putting The gills in front after only eight minutes.

Ipoua added the second following a corner from Osborn. The Old trigger step over routine and yes Ipoua hit it, and yes it hit the back of the net!!!

Moore wasted a good chance for Burnley on eight minutes, finishing badly from Little's cross.

Ipoua had a chance to make it 3-0 on the 30 minute mark. He went past three Burnley challenges, cut inside to nutmeg the defender but then put his shot into the side netting.

Burnley had their appeals for a penalty turned down at the Rainham End when Little went down, after being tackled by Gills skipper Paul Smith. The Rainham end Echoed the referees thougts, NO PENALTY!!!

Then birnley pulled one back Gareth Taylor was left unmarked to head in Dean West's cross from the right. And what a head it was too, almost took the net apart, Vince had no chance.

That put Burnley right back in the game and they finished the first-half strongly.

Their penalty came seven minutes into the second-half. Again West was involved his cross struck Perps and Lino Phil Sharp flagged for referee Clive Wilkes to point to the spot. Handball apparently though it looked like ball to hand.

Iffy then got himself booked for protesting, Little stepped up and slotted the ball past Vince, and unfortunatly into the net.

The ref then stopped play moments later to have words with the Gills bench, eventually he ordered first team coach Wayne Jones away from the dugout, as the inquest into the penalty continued.

Ipoua then missed a great chance to regain the lead for the Gills sliding the ball wide at the far post after a great pass from Osborn put him through on goal all be it at an oblique angle.

Birmingham Vs Gillingham Away

That was so much better than Saturday. Started with Nayron, Perps, Ossie, Smith and Shaw in midfield, with Ipoua up front.

Pennock, Butters, Hope and Patterson in defense.

Finished playing 2-5-3!!!

But what spirit from the boys.

You could argue that we stood like statues for the first goal, in truth it was an excellent defense splitting ball, with a well timed run and finished from that Fulham reject. The second looked like a Butters mess-up, but it was up the other end, so angles and things may lie.

Our goal was a superb cross, which Ipoua finished with panache, and much glee.

Pennock went off badly hurt after a clear 50:50 ball with Marcello. Penns had had a good assured game up to that point.

SBT came on for Shaw (like role for like role), and then Marlon for Butters!?!?

We didn't lie down all game, James came on to replace Pennock, and may well have been lucky not to be dismissed following his first tackle after 10 seconds!

That left Patto and Hope as the defense, Ipoua, SBT and Marlon up front, with Ossie, Smudge, Nayron, Perps and James in the midfield.

MOM for us either Ossie or Nayron - Ossie shaded it on his more successful pass rate possibly.

The crowd was their highest of the season, at just over 27k, of which 1500-2000 Gills made the trip a noisy one. It has to be said that City actually sang more than once, and without the help of a record this season. All in all a good night out, and rekindled the hope of a Gills win sooner rather than later.

Looking forward (at last) to Saturday.
